Newsletter #82 — Yee Haw!
Mule Book — April 30 was the deadline for the last six publishers to reply to my mule book submission. None have and so I intend to publish it myself. This will be both easier and more difficult than my other self-published books. It will be easier because by this stage I have a very good idea of what to do and how to do it efficiently. But it will be more difficult because this book will require more design elements than my other books, and also because I think the book needs black-and-white illustrations. Maybe six will do the job, maybe eight. I don't know yet.
I suspect I won't get to the mule book until mid-September.
Press Releases — In late April and early May I spent a lot of time figuring out which service to use to send out a press release on Exit Velocity. In addition, I tried to figure out if I should write the press release (I've never written one) or if an agency should. And if I chose to have the agency write it, would I encounter AI, which would, IMHO, create a soulless press release. Decisions, decisions.
After a lot of research, I decided to go with the Ein Press Service agency. The expense was minimal, and I was very happy with the service I received. As it turned out, I ended up writing my own press release — anything to keep AI from writing it! Here's the link.
3 x 5 = 1 — As I mentioned earlier, I paid Readers' Favorite for three reviews. The first review that came in rated Exit Velocity 5 stars, and that entitled me to a seal that I could put on my book cover, my web page, and various social media sites.. The other two reviews also gave Exit Velocity five-star ratings . . . but that did not entitle me to three seals, alas.
Here are the reviews. Please note that there's a top review, and then to see the other two you must scroll down.
Catching Up with Other Titles —Due to all my work on Exit Velocity over the last eight months or so, I didn't pay as much attention to my other books as I usually do. But a week ago I was on my Amazon site and happened to notice new reviews for three of my books. I'll share these, one per newsletter, the first being a review of Jack and Larry by Carol Joann, who rates the book five stars and says:
I'm not even a fan of baseball or dogs, but I'm a fan of great stories, and the story of Jack and his big-hearted bull terrier Larry is a great one. The prose/poetry is spare and rhythmic. It's a short, wonderful read.
I wanted to start with this review not only because it, too, is a short and wonderful read, but also because I know that a few of the subscribers to this newsletter are huge fans of Jack and Larry.
Presale — In my May 15 blog post I write about the presale option for books.
