Newsletter #13 — Educator Guide
Educator Guide — I spent a large part of the past month writing an Educator Guide that will be offered with The F Words. Whew! So glad that is over and done with.
I divided the Guide into two parts. Section One offers suggestions and discussion questions for The F Words, chapter by chapter. There are 50 chapters, and I think I averaged at least three questions per chapter, so that's a minimum of 150 suggestions and activities. Section Two asks questions about the book as a whole: that is, the questions are based on the assumption that the reader has completed the entire book and is ready to talk about it as a complete work (as opposed to chapter by chapter). I think I had 98 questions and suggestions in this section.
You may wonder how I could possibly come up with so many questions and suggestions. But, hey — who wrote the book?
Here's a set of questions from Section One:
Chapter 17
Analysis — Many different kinds of sports are held outdoors, no matter the weather. Cross-country is one of these. What are the conditions like in the race Cole runs? How does he do? What is the relationship between Cole's "braving the elements" and his journey through high school?
Compare — What types of things can cause confusion in a cross-country race? How do these "confusers" relate to real life?
Recall — Near the end of the race Cole falters because he starts thinking that neither his mother nor his father can come to see him race. What saves him?
Back Cover — As you can see, the back cover of The F Words is ready. I love it. Hope you do, too!
YouTube Video — Here's the link to my third YouTube video, The F Words: Cross-Country Running.
Conflict — In my July1 blog I write about conflicts in The F Words.
