Newsletter #30 — Book Festivals
Book Festivals — Participating in book festivals is a good way for an author to meet readers and to sell books. Of all the kinds of fairs, festivals and shows I've participated in, my favorite has always been what is now called BookExpo, but used to be called the ABA (American Booksellers Association) Conference, held every May. I have also enjoyed the ALA (American Library Association) Conferences. Both of these are huge and those attending are usually life-long book lovers.
COVID has changed book fairs/festivals, just as it has changed everything we do. In 2020 and 2021, most festivals were not held in person. Some weren't held at all, some were held virtually. Now, in 2022, many organizers of book festivals are delaying as long as they can to announce whether their event will be live or virtual.
One of the festivals I'm eager to participate in (if possible) is the Wisconsin Book Fair, held live every October, but currently held virtually year-long. So, I'm working on a proposal to submit, and if it's accepted, I will be participating. In 2022, I hope, but possibly in 2023.
Jack and Larry — The February 5 Zoom meeting of the Jack Graney Chapter of SABR was a lot of fun, both for the presenters and for those attending. If you have 2.5 hours you'd like to spend watching, here's the link. (I come in about 1:02.)
Trailers on YouTube — In a previous newsletter I mentioned that I was creating short (12-second) videos on Canva and posting them on social media. This month I started posting them on YouTube. I've been creating one a week, so there are a lot of videos. The F Words: Cole Runs is a graphic video, and The F Words: Fair is an author-talking trailer.
The Hate U Give— In my February 1 blog I talk about The Hate U Give and The F Words.
