Newsletter #31 — Cookie the Cockatoo
Cookie the Cockatoo — Because readers love to hear what authors say about their own books, I've started to create 3-5 minute videos for each of my self-published books, so that I might see a modest increase in sales. I have no particular order for doing the videos. Here's my first: Cookie the Cockatoo: Everything Changes.
No Longer New — Well, as my editor informed me last week, The F Words, now five months old, is no longer considered a new book. (Six months is about the longest a book can go and still be considered "new.") So now it's time to switch marketing gears: from talking about my "new book" to talking about other things, such as its relevance to today's struggles for social justice.
Notes from Readers — Just heard from somebody who is reading The F Words out loud with his partner. He wrote that the "diction, style, and emotion is just right for reading out aloud." Okay. I accept that. But I have to say, the thought of what my book would sound like if read aloud never entered my mind. And this is an example of what I love about hearing from readers — I always learn something new. See my book in a different way. As a writer, I grow. Perhaps as a reader, too.
Jack and Larry — Thanks to that February 5 meeting honoring Jack Graney, I've been asked to speak with a SABR book club on March 5, specifically on my book, Jack and Larry. This should be a lot of fun, and I've created a special Zoom background for it.
Italics — They play a big role in The F Words, and you can read about them here.
