Newsletter #53 — Top 100, Every Now and Then
Top 100 Boys & Men Ebooks — Every once in a while The F Words makes it into the top 100 best-selling ebooks in one of Amazon's categories. (Jack and Larry did the same.) I think this is the fourth or fifth time The F Words has made it in the Boys & Men category, in ebooks. That is my book's top-selling category, ahead of Coming of Age. If the distributor ever adds the other genre categories, of which Activism is one, I'm guessing that The F Words will make it in the top 100 more often (because there are probably fewer competitor titles in the Activism category).
Charlie Chan's Poppa — I have just finished recording another video promotion for one of my books, this one on Charlie Chan's Poppa: Earl Derr Biggers. The video is on YouTube. You can view it here.
Exit Velocity — And, I've finished keyboarding in all those red-ink changes I made to the Exit Velocity manuscript. I'm happy to say that keyboarding took much less time than did the slow critical reading and marking-up of the manuscript. The manuscript is still out in full to two publishers, has been entered in a contest for a third publisher, and has first-five-chapters submissions to two publishers.
A French Village — For years many different friends of ours have been urging us to watch a French dramatic series, Un village français, a seven-season series which first aired in France in 2009. The story is set in a fictional French village during the years of German occupation. The seven seasons cover the years from 1940 through 1946 and total 72 episodes.
It was the "72 episodes" that kept us from starting the series. But, finally, we did — and it is one of the best dramatic series we've ever seen. Well-written, well-acted, great setting, complex characters, and historically accurate. But very, very intense. We will need a break at the end of each season.
My Writing Life 10 — In my February 1 blog I talk about my writing during the years 2010-2015: an intense period!
